COGNITIVE TESTING

Occupational Therapists at Taylor Physical Therapy Associates are trained in the administration of standardized cognitive tests. These tests can be used to help in decision making regarding a loved one’s safety, well being and ability to resume/continue driving.

Standardized test results correlate with functional levels. Each level has well defined expectations relating to a clients ability to function at home and in the community. Scores also indicate how much supervision will be required for safety in multiple environments.

With cognitive testing , tests are administered and scores are obtained. Next, clients, their caregivers and as necessary their family physician are involved in discussions to determine how the information gathered can be used to maintain client safety and independence in their living environment. It is also important to see clients in their own homes before any major decisions are made.
